Please join us in welcoming Mr. Shawn Terrell as the new Principal of Yazoo City High School!

Mr. Terrell brings more than 25 years of educational experience and a strong commitment to student success. Throughout his career, he has served as a history teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and director, making a positive impact in urban, rural, and alternative school settings.

A graduate of Jim Hill High School in Jackson, Mississippi, Mr. Terrell earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in History from Jackson State University and later obtained a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College.

Mr. Terrell believes that every student can learn and succeed. He is passionate about building strong relationships with students, families, teachers, and the community to create a supportive learning environment where all students can thrive. His dedication to improving student achievement, increasing attendance, and reducing dropout rates has been evident throughout his career.

When he's not at school, Mr. Terrell enjoys exploring history, traveling, spending time with family, and cheering on his favorite teams—the New York Giants, New York Knicks, and New York Yankees. He is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Mr. Terrell is excited to become part of the Yazoo City High School family and looks forward to working alongside students, staff, parents, and the community to help every student reach their full potential.
