Larry Summers Career and Technical Center, a part of the Yazoo City Municipal School District, was recognized as a recipient of the 2026 Governor’s Award presented by the Mississippi Association of Partners in Education (MAPE) during the Governor’s Awards Luncheon held at William Carey University. The award honors outstanding school-community partnerships that positively impact student learning, career readiness, and community engagement across the state of Mississippi.
LSCTC received the award for its partnership initiative, “Beyond the Classroom: Connecting Students to Careers,” which highlights the center’s collaboration with local schools, healthcare facilities, childcare centers, public safety agencies, and businesses to provide students with meaningful work-based learning experiences. Through partnerships with organizations such as McCoy Elementary School, Martha Coker Nursing Home, Yazoo City Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, the Yazoo City Fire Department, local daycares, and automotive businesses, students gain real-world career exposure while developing valuable professional and technical skills. The district is proud of the students, staff, and community partners whose dedication continues to create opportunities and brighter futures for Yazoo City students.
