FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

May 6, 2026

The Southern Education Foundation (SEF) has announced the selection of its 2026 SEF Research Fellows, a distinguished cohort of scholars and practitioners dedicated to advancing education justice across the South. Our very own Romeka R. Mack, Director of Accreditation and Accountability for the Yazoo City Municipal School District, has been selected as one of only seven Fellows chosen nationally from a highly competitive pool of applicants. This recognition highlights her leadership and commitment to improving educational outcomes, particularly for students from historically marginalized communities. Through the fellowship, participants engage in actionable, evidence-based research to inform policy and practice on critical issues such as educational access, curriculum, technology, and student well-being.

Throughout the fellowship, Fellows collaborate with SEFโ€™s network of researchers, advocates, and policymakers while sharing their findings through publications and public platforms. The SEF Research Fellows Program reflects a longstanding commitment to cultivating leaders and advancing research-driven solutions that expand educational opportunity across the region, reinforcing the impact of this achievement at both the district and broader educational levels.
