FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

October 6, 2025

Yazoo City High School is proud to announce that students Juelz Jordan, Madison McCraney, and Kursactys Owens, Jr. have been selected to represent Yazoo City High School and the Yazoo City Municipal School District as members of the 2025-2026 State Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC).

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) announced the 114 members of this year’s council, which includes 57 new members and 57 returning members. Students on the council represent diverse backgrounds, school sizes, and regions across Mississippi. Their role is to share their perspectives on education, provide input on statewide policy decisions, and serve as liaisons between their peers and Dr. Lance Evans, State Superintendent of Education.

Founded in 2019, the SAC program gives students a direct voice in shaping education in Mississippi. To be selected, applicants must complete a rigorous process, which includes writing a compelling cover letter, submitting a resume, and responding to questions about their educational concerns, accomplishments, and goals. This year, MDE received nearly 200 applications.

Jordan, McCraney, and Owens’ selection reflects their leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to improving educational opportunities for all students. By joining the council, they will contribute to important conversations about student success, equity, and the future of public education in Mississippi.

“We are incredibly proud of Juelz, Madison, and Kursactys for representing Yazoo City High School on a statewide platform,” said school administrators. “Their voices will not only elevate the concerns of Yazoo City students but also help shape the future of education across Mississippi.”

The Yazoo City Municipal School District congratulates these outstanding student leaders for their achievement and looks forward to their contributions on the 2025-2026 State Superintendent’s Advisory Council.
